Anders Lindroth, professor emeritus at our department, has been interviewed in a number of media channels about the EU’s new directive on renewable energy, which states that a large percentage is to be made up of bioenergy. Lindroth said that it can lead to deforestation both within and outside the EU, as well as increased emissions of greenhouse gases.
Lindroth has also been quoted in an article about biofuel for aircraft. “Biofuel is not carbon dioxide neutral. On the contrary, it can lead to twice the carbon dioxide emissions of the most efficient fossil fuels. The saving is only apparent over time and is theoretical”, he said.
