Satellite Remote Sensing
NGEN24
The purpose of the course is to give in-depth knowledge of and skills in digital satellite remote sensing in studies of the earth’s environment and the ways in which it is affected by humans.
Course content
Among others, you will be learning the basic physical principles and terminology in remote sensing, and get an overview of satellites and sensor systems. Furthermore the course will cover data management and basic image processing methodology, such as radiometric and geometric correction, image enhancement, classification methods, image transformations, integration of field data, and thematic mapping.
Apart from theory and technology, the course will provide an overview of the use of satellite remote sensing in important application fields, e.g. climate, environment, agriculture, forestry, urban issues, water management, and the use of satellite data at various resolutions. The course will provide an overview of the most commonly used types of remote sensing data.
Teaching methods
The teaching consists of lectures, computer assignments, seminars, group projects and project work. A short field data collection trip is also included.
