Alumni: Niklas, master´s degree and a PhD

Studied a Master´s degree in Physical Geography and continuted with Ph D studies

With an interest in nature and the interaction with society

Name: Niklas Boke Olén
Education: master´s degree and PhD in Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science.

Why did you choose the program in Physical geography?

The reason I chose physical geography was from the beginning because I was fascinated and interested in nature and the interaction with people. What I did not know then was that I would also have a very great interest in the methods used to study various phenomena. For example, modeling, GIS and remote sensing. My plan was to work with something that I enjoyed and that challenged me.

What was the best thing about the education?

The best thing about the education was the variety of knowledge and the very committed teachers.

What do you work with now?

I now work with GIS and remote sensing at the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

What in the education have you benefited most from in working life?

The knowledge of nature, GIS and remote sensing but also to be able to quickly get acquainted with a new subject.

Do you have any tips for students who are thinking about what they want to study and later work with?

My tip for future students is to choose courses according to interest. It is a luxury to be able to work / study with your interest. Also make sure to be involved in several student contexts to create networks for the future.
