Master’s Programme in GIS and Remote sensing

The Master´s programme in Geomatics will develop into GIS and Remote sensing from autumn 2022. The programme prepares you for work in governmental and private organisations as well as for research. The courses cover a wide range of areas in the field of geomatics including geographic information systems (GIS), geodesy, remote sensing and computer science.

Eligibility

Bachelor´s degree representing 180 ECTS in scientific or technical subjects, including 15 ECTS GIS. You must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent.
There may be some other country specific requirements.

When you are accepted as a student to the programme, you are guaranteed a place on all courses on condition that you fulfil the particular entry requirements for each course.

Programme contents

The master's program in GIS and remote sensing deals with theoretical, methodological and technical aspects of the subject area and aims to develop advanced knowledge and skills for entry into the labor market or to prepare for doctoral studies in the subject. The studies include theoretical knowledge and skills in geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analysis, spatial data infrastructure (SDI), machine learning and computer science. The education also deals with national and global areas of application, especially in the field of natural sciences such asnatural geography, environmental science, earth observation, and such. The training program also deals with the role of GIS and remote sensing in the area of community construction, and applications mainly focusing on environmental, physical and urban planning.

Exchange opportunities

One opportunity for you admitted to the geomatics program is to read part of the program abroad. There are many partner universities at Lund University to choose from, and also specific agreements between our department and departments at other universities abroad.

Please contact our international coordinator Martin Berggren for more information and support in decisions about exchange studies.

Job market after education

The master's program in geomatics aims to provide an attractive education that is sought after in state and municipal administration, private business and provides a basis for research in the field. The use of GIS in particular is extremely expansive in a number of industries. To meet the growing need for people with competence in geomatics, the need for education is considered to be very great. It is mainly municipalities, administrations and consulting companies that currently employ geomaticians.
