Biogeochemical cycles in forests
Combining empirical data with modelling
We study biogeochemical cycles in forest ecosystems by combining empirical data with modelling, with a focus on nutrient and carbon cycling. The aim is to predict the impacts of climate change, forest management practices, and atmospheric deposition on soil chemistry and water runoff quality. The research includes, for example, studies on the effects of forest management on nutrient cycling and acidification, the assessment of nitrogen leaching risks from forest soils, and the examination of weathering processes for sustainable forestry.
Support to stakeholders
An important aim is to provide decision support for Swedish stakeholders, with whom we maintain continuous contact. Examples of stakeholders include the Energy Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, Forest Agency, and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.
