Summary, in English

The thermal comfort conditions were analyzed for people within a street canyon, a medium sized city in the southern upper Rhine plain, during the summer heatwave 2003. Continuous measurements of all meteorological data necessary to calculate PET that is air temperature Ta, vapor pressure VP, wind speed v, and short and long wave radiation flux densities from the three-dimensional (3D) surroundings of a standing person were carried out. The diurnal cycle of Ta, VP, and v as well as relative humidity RH shows patterns that are typical of extremely hot summer days in Freiburg. The results of the net-short-wave radiation K* reflect the local measurement conditions at the northern sidewalk of the E-W street canyon.
