Using an improved approach to investigate peatland carbon dynamics at different temporal scales across the pan-Arctic

Författare

  • Nitin Chaudhary

Summary, in English

The majority of northern peatlands were initiated during the Holocene around
8,000 to 12,000 years ago. Owing to their mass imbalance, they have sequestered huge amounts of organic carbon in the terrestrial ecosystem. The distribution of soil organic carbon is widespread and uneven across the pan-Arctic (45-75ºN latitude).

Recent syntheses have filled some existing gaps, however, the extent and remoteness of many peatland locations pose challenges in developing
Using an improved modelling approach to investigate peatland carbon dynamics at different temporal scales across the pan-Arctic a reliable regional peatland carbon accumulation estimate. The aim of Nitin Chaudhary’s current work at the University of Oslo is to reduce the current and future uncertainties related to the northern peatland carbon cycle. The study will also increase our understanding of land-surface interactions and their impact on climate.
