Frans-Jan Parmentier

The large changes in air temperature, snow cover and sea ice extent in the Arctic are expected to affect the exchange of greenhouse gases between ecosystems and the atmosphere in one way or the other, but size and direction are often unclear. Through careful analysis of observations and with the use of models, my research aims to identify what drives CO2 and methane fluxes in a warmer Arctic.

The outcome of my research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Climate Change, GRL, PNAS, ERL and Biogeosciences among others. I'm also a coordinating author on the technical report 'AMAP Assessment 2015: Methane as an Arctic climate forcer' and involved as a co-author on two chapters of the forthcoming update of the AMAP assessment 'Arctic Carbon Cycling - Snow, Water, Ice and Permafrost in the Arctic (SWIPA)'.
