Development of GIS education in Palestine

Development of education programs and courses for university students and professionals in Palestine

Together with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Birzeit and Al Quds University and the House of Water in the West Bank of Palestine, ENES through the GIS Center is running a development work focusing on GIS education that is flexible enough to be used for both university students and professionals . The project is funded by EU TEMPUS and runs over two years. During the course of the project, courses for first-level students, master's students and professionals will be developed, taking advantage of the knowledge already available to the parties involved.

The Palestinian partners come from geography, geology, water management, environmental science and planning, which means that the various practical parts of the education will be gathered from these fields. To some extent, Problem-based methods will be used, especially for those courses that are mainly aimed at already professional students.

New pedagogical concepts are needed to adapt the education to the target groups, as well as technical solutions suitable for teaching situations where the conditions are very unstable. All involved have long teaching experience and have developed their own concepts to best communicate their knowledge, which means that one of the biggest challenges for the project is to try and match the different styles of a homogeneous learning platform.
