The Planning Portal

The project aimed at developing a web service to support regional planning, urban and rural development, regional development planning, infrastructure planning, siting of buildings and facilities.

The Planning Portal was a Vinnova project coordinated by of Building and Planning. Via the Planning Portal, you should be able to search for, view and download virtually all geographic information that is relevant to community development and planning, e.g. data from the State Provincial Offices, the National Land Survey, Statistics Sweden, the Swedish Geological Survey, Swedish Geotechnical Institute and from SMHI.

The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science contributed to the Planning Portal with a study of the usefulness of screen maps. The goal of this study is to develop measures of readability of the maps. These measurements will then be used to determine which information is presented and how it should be presented (for example, if the map data must be simplified). The study will be conducted preference tests and user trials in which subjects must solve planning tasks. The study is a collaborative project with the National Land Survey.
