Programming for Applications in Geomatics, Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science

Programming skills are becoming increasingly important. Hence, we offer this broad course in basic programming targeting students in Geomatics, Physical Geography and Ecosystem Sciences.

The course is a basic programming course and no prior knowledge of programming is required. The course is divided into three modules. The first module covers basic programming concepts like variables, conditionals (if statements), loops, and functions. the programming language is Matlab. In the second module the object oriented programming language Python is used. Data types, data Structures, objects and inheritance are introduced and you get further training in the concepts introduced in the first module. The third module consists of a larger project where you as a student can choose a project focusing either on GIS or modelling.

Teaching consists of lectures, practical exercises and a larger project. The main focus is on practical programming training
