...practice what you learned during your education?

Emil Roman is a student at the Master´s programme in Geomatics. He chose to take a short break in his studies in order to gain more knowledge and practical skills. Emil works at Visimind AB, a company located in Stockholm that focuses on Mobile Mapping Technology, automated measurement methods and systems based on GIS and digital images.

- My job here at Visimind AB involves the elaboration of LIDAR data, from Laser Scanners, in the form of classification and digitalization in order to create 3D maps. The maps I help create are mainly for infrastructure, such as roads, houses or power lines. In the digitalization process we use 3D point clouds and we geo-reference maps, 2D plans and technical drawings. It’s amazing to see how accurate these are, even though some of them were drawn, by hand, more than 50 years ago.

- It feels really good to be part of this because many people will benefit from using these databases later.
