This course deals with the use and aspects of digital remote sensing images. Basic radiation and reflection theories and properties and the Corine land cover classification system are dealt with. The course mixes theoretical exercises where scientific articles or technical papers are penetrated and practical hands-on exercises going through classification accuracy assessment. the maximum likelihood classification technique, vegetation indices, seasonal phenology, annual time series and trends (vegetation change), download and import web-available satellite data. The course will also train the student in critical examination of scientific papers dealing with remote sensing techniques and applications.
NOTE: This is an internet based course. You are not supposed to travel to Lund to attend. The course is part of LUMA-GIS, the master program in GIS, but it is also possible to study this course outside the program. Teaching consists of lectures and practical exercises that you will submit to the teachers. The course ends with a written examination.
