Digital Remote Sensing and GIS

GISN08

When taking this course, you will learn about the use and aspects of digital remote sensing images. We will deal with basic radiation and reflection theories and properties and the Corine land cover classification system. We also mix theoretical exercises – in which we study scientific articles or technical papers – and practical hands-on exercises, when we go through classification accuracy assessment. You will learn about:

  • maximum likelihood classification techniques
  • vegetation indices
  • seasonal phenology
  • annual time series and trends (vegetation change), as well as
  • download and import web-available satellite data

The course will also train you in critical examination of scientific papers dealing with remote sensing techniques and applications.

This is an Internet based course. Many of our students take it as part of our Master's Programme in GIS. But you can also take the course as stand-alone.

Teaching consists of lectures and practical exercises that you will submit to the teachers. The course ends with a written examination.
